On Tuesday, October 30, 2012 the Linn County Conservation Department will host a public meeting regarding the current and future status of Matsell Bridge Shooting Range. The meeting will be held at Prairie Oak Lodge in Squaw Creek Park (Marion) at 6:30PM. There is no registration required to attend.
The facility has been closed since September 17th, after claims had been made that bullets were leaving the range. The range closed immediately for maintenance and improvements. The timeline and schedule of closures depends on each specific range. At the meeting, the Conservation staff will provide an update about the maintenance and improvement process and anticipated timeline. The meeting will also include a discussion of future changes to the range rules and standards that will increase user and public safety.
The Linn County Conservation Department would like to hear ideas from range users and the public about the best way to increase safety, while still providing a positive range experience for all involved.

What a shame. I am not a Linn County resident, but from Anamosa. This is my range of choice for target shooting. Unfortunately, there are some that disregard the rules. Also, unfortunately, it is impossible to police a shooting range without a full-time operator. A few ruin a good thing for the many. I don’t know what I can do, but please let me know if I can help.
