Wickiup Hill Expansion


Help us celebrate the completion of the new exhibits at Wickiup Hill Learning Center!  Saturday, April 13th, 2013, 10-4PM – free admission and kids take home a free coloring book!  No registration required. Wickiup Hill is located at 10260 Morris Hills Road in Toddville.

About the Project:


  • Promotes youth education of critical natural resources, renewable energy and sustainable communities
  • Provides a hub for family activities and life-long learning opportunities
  • Provides education about the Cedar River and wise management of this natural resources related to water quality and floodplain management
  • Improves the quality of life for the Linn County Community by providing a destination and educational resource


Existing (dedicated October 2002) 10,000 square foot facility:

  • Entrance gathering area
  • 2 classrooms
  • Limited exhibit space
  • Bird viewing area
  • Small public restroom
  • Limited storage/garage
  • Offices for environmental education staff

Expansion (dedicated April 2013) additional 8,330 square feet:

  • Exhibit space (2,200 sq ft)
  • Multifunctional class room (1,800 sq ft)
  • Public restrooms, storage, library area (2,000 sq ft)
  • Administrative offices/tornado safe room (2,300 sq ft)
  • Storage space

Cost & Funding

$3.65 million dollar project includes:

  • Building and exhibit design
  • Building construction
  • Exhibit fabrication and installation
  • Office furnishings
  • High speed internet 5 miles of fiber optics to building site

Funding sources include:

  • $1.5 million local government support
  • $850,000 CAT Grant
  • $615,000 FEMA
  • $350,000 Hall Perrine
  • $285,000 Corporate Contributions
  • $50,000 Private Contributions
